This class is an introduction to medical and cultural anthropology through considerations of how humans navigate health and healing. Understandings of the body, causes of disease, and explanation of cures vary historically and across the globe. In this class, students will use an anthropological perspective to explore issues related to health in a diversity of contexts. Through course readings, lectures, written assignments, and student-led discussions and presentations, students will be able to explore topics related to health from individual, interpersonal, and global perspectives.
