Tech Exchange is a unique hybrid learning opportunity that helps you prepare for a career in tech by learning from Googlers and HBCU/HSI faculty. You’ll take two courses to help prepare you for technical internships at Google and beyond.
Google's 2021B CS Research Mentorship Program
The application for Google's 2021B CS Research Mentorship Program (CSRMP) is now open for students to apply. CSRMP aims to support students from historically marginalized groups to progress in computing research pathways.
About the program
Students are matched into a pod with a Google mentor and small group of peers who are at a similar academic stage, and interested in the same research area. Pods structure discussion and identify opportunities around a topic shared by each student and supported by the mentor through group and one-on-one meetings.
In addition, students join a broader peer community, and are invited to virtual networking events, career panels, tech talks, and information sessions about computing research opportunities. CSRMP does not assign research projects or internships.
The mentorship cycle runs for twelve weeks during the academic year with a minimum total time commitment of ten hours per student.
Class A (October application): January-April mentorship cycle (Check out our Class of 2021A graduates!)
Class B (July application): September-December mentorship cycle
Eligibility
CSRMP aims to support students from historically marginalized groups to progress in computing research pathways. The definition of who is historically marginalized is responsive to a specific region, context, and its nuances. This can include students with marginalized gender and racial/ethnic identities, students with disabilities, students from low socioeconomic status, first-generation students, and intersections of these groups and others.
- Active enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting program in computer science (or an adjacent field) in the United States or Canada for the full duration of the mentorship cycle
- Includes community college students and students obtaining a minor in computer science (or an adjacent field)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a four point scale, or equivalent)

Takeshi Katsumata Scholarship will be available to receive applications by 12 PM, March 16.

CyberStart FastTrack 2020 Program
Cyber FastTrack 2020 has launched, which is a free cybersecurity competition for college students. Registration is open now through March 22, 2020. Attached is a Cyber FastTrack flyer with more information and a link below to their website. There is $2.2 million in scholarships for SANS courses and GIAC certifications for those who excel. Student Professional Worker Program
About the program
The Student Professional Worker (SPW) Program is a paid internship that provides college level Information Technology students valuable on-the-job training and experience, mentoring, and preparation for future career opportunities not only with LADWP but with other City departments as well. SPWs will assist and perform a wide-range of technical duties supporting the day-to-day operations of LADWP’s Information Technology Services Division. SPWs will work under the direct supervision of LADWP IT professionals and are expected to progress and develop their IT knowledge, skills and experience throughout the program.
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate degree program with a declared Information Technology major in an accredited university or college.
- Be at a Junior or Senior standing in the declared Information Technology major curriculum, but not in your final quarter/semester prior to graduation at the time of application.
- Have career goals, curriculum, experience, and/or interests related to the business of the LADWP.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Have the legal right to work in the United States. Please be aware that the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power does not sponsor work visas.
- A California Driver License may also be required for the job.
- Background check conducted in accordance with LADWP procedures and/or in accordance with NERC CIP policy requirements.

Research Experience for Undergraduates
NSF REU Site: Applied Computing Research in Unmanned Aerial Systems
OVERVIEW
The program offers a unique opportunity to undergraduate students nation-wide, particularly to the students of under-represented groups, to participate in applied computing research in unmanned aerial systems and their applications. The objective of the program is to provide participants unique research experiences in a stimulating environment that will involve developing secure, autonomous UAS technology and using them for knowledge discovery. The focus of this REU is to seek solutions to facilitate collection, storage, and analysis of data on the coastal environment of the Gulf of Mexico, particularly in South Texas through developing algorithms and software systems. Approximately ten students will be supported for a 10-week program from June 1, 2020 to August 7, 2020.
BENEFITS
- A student will gain experience in applied computing research in unmanned aerial systems and their applications.
- Students will receive mentoring from experienced research faculty
- Students will be informed about graduate schools and financial opportunities such fellowships, scholarships, and assistantships to support graduate education
- Students will receive $6,000 as stipend ($600 a week)
- A travel allowance to come to and return from the site
- Furnished housing will be provided
- Expenses for meals (a fixed amount per day) will be provided for all participating students
ELLIGIBILITY
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States (Students from underrepresented minority groups such as Hispanics, African Americans, Native Americans, and women are strongly encouraged to apply)

Pinterest's 2020 Engage Scholars Program
The Pinterest Engage Scholars Program is dedicated to providing growth and learning opportunities to Freshmen and Sophomore students actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with a demonstrated interest in a technical major. the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program application is now open to all CSUDH students and the deadline for the application is Thursday June 4th. Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship
We launched the Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship in 2010 to celebrate and support women who are beginning careers in technology. We hope to encourage women to pursue computer science, engineering, and technical studies, and to become leaders in these fields.
This year, 10 scholarship recipients will be chosen and invited to visit our headquarters in Palo Alto for a full-day, all-expenses paid developmental workshop. Programming will include professional development sessions, breakouts with our engineers, and some fun social activities! All recipients are awarded grants of $7,000 to support their education.
